Signed on December 29, 2008, the Electronic Waste Take-back Program in MICHIGAN was enforced for all households and small-scale businesses purchasing brand new computers and televisions. Since October 30, 2009, all manufacturers have been required to register with the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and pay an annual registration fee of $3,000. But on April 1, 2010, the state expanded the scope of the law and required all retailers- including catalog, internet, manufacturer direct, and in-state retailers- to have a permit to sell new computers and televisions made by registered manufacturers in Michigan.

The state acknowledges the crucial role of recycling as an integral component of pollution prevention, resource conservation, environmental protect and most of all, e-waste reduction efforts in Michigan. Every business and household in the state is encouraged to take this step toward a cleaner and more progressive operations and lifestyle. Recycling is a popularly positive method anyone can practice to attain a sustainable kind of living.
