The Sins of Owning a Smartphone

And How You Can Resist the Temptation!
by Aldrin N. on 2012-07-24
True to most of us, our smartphones are considered our portable selves. It is an electronic repository of our whole being- our social life, our interests, our priorities; our entire personality in fact! But as with all things in life, the smartphones can make you become the perfect opposite of the type of person you want to be while in possession of that lovely device. How? If you voluntarily give up your bright right because of the smartphone!
But don’t you worry, my friend! Solving that problem is indeed easy! And this article will serve that purpose for you: Here are the stupid things that you do with a wonderfully made gizmo like your smartphone!
- Forgetting Important Contact Details
Because our smartphones have an immense capability of storing possibly thousands of contact details of our families, friends, and acquaintances, we tend to over rely on their availability. My friend once said that you must memorize at least three contact numbers just in case your phone breaks down or stolen, so that you may find a way to let them know what happened to you even without the gizmo. If you always rely on the GPS app installed in your smartphone, you will not learn how to reach the destination by yourself. This is the same with storing too much important information on the phone, until your phone dies.
- Getting Bugged by Unnecessary Phone Notifications
Because of getting used to a lot of intermittent notifications on your phone, you become preprogrammed to check your mobile phone in regular intervals. I think this idea calls to mind certain concepts in Psychology, say Classical Conditioning. It just happens, you know: You get alarmed by the constant ringing and vibration of the phone, that even when you put it on silent mode or disable the vibration, you can’t last an entire hour without checking it at least once. Sometimes, because you enabled too many notification alerts on your phone, you oftentimes get a lot of non-essential signals that disrupt your meal, meeting, or conversation with your best pals.
- Getting Distracted While Driving
This advisory deserves a thousand repetitions: Do not text while driving. While your car wheels are rolling down the road, do not check your phone for messages or any other notification. Never ever do that, unless you wish to meet the Savior soon.
Do not entertain even a call. Although your eyes are fixed on the road, your attention is still divided by the driving and the one you are talking to. That’s why you have to keep all the distractions at a minimum.
Well, these are just some of the ‘iniquities’ we commit while in possession of a smartphone. If you need to battle the temptation that that wonderful gadget gives you, I urge you to sell smartphones at Cash for Smartphones!
You can get great loads of cash when you sell Motorola Droid, or sell HTC Evo 4G, or Samsung Captivate!
